Incarceration of the mentally ill

Is prison the new asylum? People suffering from mental illness are often placed in the criminal justice system, rather than given the treatment and care they need. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 40 percent of people suffering from mental illness go through the criminal justice system at some point during their lifetime.

AAPI women in particular are often underrepresented and underserved. We've been working with experts to develop a comprehensive set of tools to accompany Bei Bei to empower mental health professionals, immigration advocates, and those in the legal profession to address the needs of Asian American women and, in partnership with those impacted, develop community, state, and national solutions that better meet their needs.
